We all had a fantastic week- loved the apartment, such a brilliant location and layout- it really has everything you need to relax after exploring Barcelona every day- and oozes style! On our last night we ate at El Racó d’en Cesc on Diputacio 201 ) between Aribau and Muntaner)- can highly recommend it.

The flat certainly has the WOW Factor! Just a stunning apartment, comfortable and so stylish. Cannot believe how lucky we were with the weather, clear blue skies every day and warm enough to sit outside in the sun. Barcelona beautiful, still buzzy but not too busy with tourists. Went to Sitges on the train, about 40mins journey and enjoyed walk along the promenade and some of us even paddled in the sea! Huge thanks to Val and Maria for organising the trip to celebrate Maria´s special birthday!

We have had a busy but v enjoyable week here exploring Barcelona. We liked Casa Batlló (need to allow 1.5-2 hrs inside)  [9 minutes walk away] and also Parc Guell [12 mins by taxi].

We have had an absolutley fantastic time in Barcelona. The apartment is beautiful and in a quiet location. Really love this part of town. Packing to leave this morning is very sad! I will miss it here. Saw many beautiful things in Barcelona and people are so nice. Adios!

My spot was by the window in the garden room. When every one of my 81 yr old bones was aching, sitting and enjoying the Spanish breeze with a glass of wine in my hand was heaven! This flat in Balmes is perfectly located for vacationers who need good access to all things – food, transportation and shopping. We have loved our week here. We love Barcelona and its kind friendly people.

To Rachel & Gideon & Family

Love the apartment, especially the garden, garden porch and the tiled floors. Also very attached to “la tortuga!” Changed his/her water Weds am and fed according to directions.

Casa Battlo
Casa Battlo

Also, great to have the metro so close & it’s easy to travel on. Went to flamenco performance and loved it, travelled on bus tour, (also recommend the 2 day), saw Parc Guell, Casa BattloSagrada Famila [12 mins walking & train], and went to Barcoleneta and put our feet in the Mediterranean. Lots of good places to eat in nearby streets. Had really good sangria and tapas at 5 jotas and had a full dinner there inside one night  and the food was really good. Went for cappucino every AM at el Fornet around the corner- the proprietress got to know exactly what we would order and they were so nice and tolerant of our minimal abilities with Spanish. Go to the Deli House! This was excellent- our guide was Nestor from OkaiBarcelona and he was so great- made it a wonderful day for us.
Great shopping in the little streets in Born Ribera in Old Town- small boutiques- beautiful jewelry & clothes (& gelato!)

Rachel & Gideon
Just to say thank you both so much for the use of your fabulous apartment. It was perfect for us in every way.

Barcelona Bus Tour
Barcelona Bus Tour

We walked for miles! Went on the bus tour, which we would recommend highly. We bought a 2 day ticket. The facilities in the apartment were perfect and the garden was wonderful for breakfast!
Rachel- thank you for being so accomodating with us for leaving our bags and then holding them  before our flight, it was a great help. We will be back for sure!

Very best wishes

L, C & M x, Scotland and London.

P.S. Thank you to Adam for all the advice and information he gave us. We went to “Fonda” on his recommendation, fantastic!

We have had a lovely week in Barcelona. Your flat is very beautiful, and we have really enjoyed staying here- thankyou!
The toys and DVDs were perfect for our boys (3 1/2 and 2) and it is amazingly quiet away from the noise of the street.
We have had mixed luck with restaurants, but as a rule, avoid the main streets and duck into the smaller side streets!
We would highly recommend this flat to friends.

4-10 Sep 2013

Dear Rachel,
Thankyou so much for letting us use your beautiful apartment. We had a peaceful place to return to after each of our 6 busy days exploring the joys and wonders of Barcelona.
We found the taxi drivers friendly, helpful and cheap, & resorted to taxi for much of our travel, Di has a bad leg.
Loved our swim at the beach- the “Julias” trip to Montserrat we wouldn’t recommend for people who want a bit of time to soak in the atmosphere- only 1 1/2 hours at the mountain at midday when the most stuff was closed for a service and long queues waiting. Then the bus left at 1.30.

We found 3 restaurants we would recommend for good food, not too expensive, excellent service and character. First 2 both of Via Laitana- Senyor Parellada - beautiful chandeliers, Catalan/French menu. Brasserie Flo , old, large, atmospheric theatre restaurant half a block from the Palau de la Musica. Beautiful fixed price €26 menu. Restaurant Ponsa, 1 block from the flat across Balmes, last old coal range oven in Barcelona. Gorgeous food, English interpretation of menu by chef.

P.S. Thankyou Lynda and Adam for looking after our day to day questions. P.S. the turtle wouldn’t eat our tomato!

August 2013

Great bread/pastries/brunch at Audrey’s and very reasonable (and friendly too). Last day tomorrow, we’ll be sorry to go back to Nottingham and face a 60 mile drive to the nearest beach…Skegness!

Many thanks for the info and all the stuff we could use in the apartment.

We liked going to Audrey every morning to get bread and croissants. Also we saw the turtle in the garden on day 1 and so we fed it. Another thing was the Spanish aquarium we saw loads of eels and sharks! When we went on the tourist bus we saw loads of Barcelona including the houses of Goudi. We also went to the Barcelona football stadium.

As a base this flat is in an outstanding position and as Malachy said above, the patisserie on Rosello- Audrey- was great. As was the supermarket on Provença [C. Provença, 185). We have really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone.

We loved the apartment with the garden and the surprise turtle (and hope we didn't overfeed it). Great area to stay in and to be next to the Metro station [Note from Rachel- this tortoise seems to have adopted our garden- probably because of the automatic irrigation hose- there's water to drink].

We found a 30 minute concert at the Palau de la Musica which was excellent, and enjoyed La Pedrera (just a short walk away). Many thanks for the beach towels: we also had to relaxing days at Castelldefels and Barceloneta.

23 July 2013

Although we have visited Barcelona many times before, this was our first visit with the children (aged 8 & 5), so we opted for an apartment in Barcelona. It worked out great. The apartment was lovely and cool for us and the children enjoyed the toys and writing their scrap books on the table looking onto the garden. Top of the list to visit for the children was the zoo. It was excellent and we spent the whole day. We did wish we had taken a picnic as the food at the zoo was not great, so would recommend this. We bought croissants from Hansel and the shop next to it. Both lovely.

For tapas we went with the owner’s recommendation and was very nice [Ceveseria Catalana]. Child firendly too. My son loved the football stadium [Camp Nou] and the trip to the beach was a hit for the whole family. The water was lovely and very safe.

Thanks, The P.s, Aberdeen, Scotland.

19 July 2013

Wonderful cool and airy flat to return to after a day wandering around the sights of Barcelona. Found the T10 tickets worthwhile to use from the Diagonal and  Provença stations, especially at the end of the day! [Note from Rachel- these are 10 journey train tickets that work on the Metro and the FCG railway. Buy them from the machines].

Long queue for the Picasso Museum but no-one at the MEAM round the corner from there. Well worth a visit.

Good breakfast at the cafe on the corner [Por Sant]. Good tapas at Ciudad Comdad at Catalunya/Cortes Catalanes.

Hope to be back one day!

July 2013

Hi Rachel,

Just to let you know that we have just got back from Spain and had an excellent week in your flat in Barcelona. It was wonderfully airy and we really liked the style and decor. After walking into Placa de Catalunya a couple of times, we found jumping on the train by the flat gave us more walking capacity to see more of the city.

Loved the city too and hope to come back one day.

Many thanks

Alison

[Tip- if you are using the train, get a T-10 ticket which gives you 10 journeys. Not only is it more convenient, but it's cheaper too, particularly if you change from the FGC which runs down to Plaza Catalunya near the flat to the metro lines- with a T-10 you can change and still just use one jounrney]

We are just about to depart after a wonderful stay in The Garden Flat.  A beautiful place to stay in this inspirational city. So back to my studio can my canvasses with my head  full of Gaudi! More paintings of Barcelona soon on www.helenjoyce.com or www.capturedportrait.co.uk.

So thankyou for making it so lovely to enjoy my first holiday with my new grandson!

I just wanted to thank you and let you know that we had a fabulous time in Barcelona – despite the weather!!!

Your apartment was perfect. So central, very roomy, very comfortable beds and everything we needed. (a mirror in the twin room would be good though!!).

We packed in quite a bit with the The Sagrada Familiar, a bus tour, the Gaudi Park, Picasso Museum, The Barcelona Football stadium, The food market, etc. plus lunch at Agua (great), La Rondo (great) and our favourite being dinner at The Catalana Tapas (Ceveseria Catalana) just round the corner from you. (So good we went twice). Oh and managed some shopping too!!!!

Arrived back last night to the cold and drizzle!!!

Once again, thanks very much and hopefully we will get out again sometime. Will definitely recommend your apartment.

(There’s a bit of a gap here, as we shut the flat over the winter (2012/13) to carry out some maintenance work, repaint etc)

30th August 2012

We’ve had a lovely few days in Barcelona – a very relaxed city which seems to have everything. Went to the Sagrada Familia on our first day, which was absolutely amazing. Best to book online beforehand to avoid the queues, it’s worth paying the bit extra to go up in the tower.

We saw the fountains at Montjuïc which were lovely and also visited Montjuic Park during the day. The parks there were lovely and we went to the Montjuïc Piscine (open air Barcelona swimming pool). The views over Barcelona were fantastic and the pool itself was nice for swimming in, and but the rest of the facilities (changing rooms and surrounding area) were virtually derelict!

Our children (teenagers) enjoyed swimming in the sea at Barceloneta- balmy Mediterranean Sea but very crowded beach.

The Garden Flat has been so good to come back to each day- a cool haven, and such a beautiful building. Loved the galeria, but it has been too hot to sit in the garden most of the time.

We enjoyed several days of unbroken sunshine, but the rain on the last day was quite welcome.  A tortoise appeared in the garden during the rain.  He hides under the plants during the dry weather.

Thankyou very much Rachel and family,  and Lynda for making our stay so enjoyable.  We’ll recommend it to friends and hope to maybe come back here sometime.

R, T, K, and S. D. Cornwall, UK

Thankyou for the Cava!
