This is a superb tapas restaurant very close to the flat on Carrer (Calle) Mallorca. Just come out of the flat, turn left and head down hill. Turn left on Mallorca (the first street) and Cerveseria Catalana (literally “Catalan beer hall”) is at the end of the block on the right.
Great for a quick bite (just sit at the bar) or a longer lunch if you head to the back of the restaurant. You can also sit outside, but get there early (that means around 1.30 in Barcelona) to make sure you get a table as it’s popular, especially on work days.
Start of with with Catalan classic: Pa amb tomàquet – bread with tomato. Rub the garlic on the bread first, then smear tomato juice over it fresh from the fruit and finish off with a drizzle of olive oil.
We’d also recommend the salads, the house tortilla (slightly soft on the inside), grilled asparagus, the patatas bravas with Romesco sauce, grilled squid (chiperones or xiperons), steamed mussels, and mushrooms with garlic - all delicious. The key to this restaurant is the quality of its ingredients.
