Inopia is a tapas bar run by Alberto Adrià, the younger brother and partner of Ferran Adrià, of el Bulli fame (a restaurant to the north on the Costa Brava which regularly wins the best reataurant in the world title). Inopia has an bright (some would say stark) design- more of a bar, with white walls and fluorescent fixtures. Most people sit on stools, lean or stand. It’s perhaps trying a bit too hard to make a statement with the decor, but don’t let that put you off as the food is superb.
The menu is classic Spanish tapas but the difference with Inopia is that you’ll have never tasted tapas quite this good- superb, often precious ingredients, prepared and simply served.
Try the anchovies, oysters, the tomato salad with fresh salt cod; Jabugo ham and the sliced tuna. Even the olives are outstanding here and the ham croquettes are made with Ibéric ham.
It’s not the cheapest tapas bar around (these kind of ingrediets don’t come cheap), but you are not going to have to remortgage your house for tapas either, so if you fancy a treat during your stay its worth a visit.
Try the taster menu at €35 (last time we were there) if you manage to get a table. You won’t need to eat again for a couple of days! The deliocious tapas just keep coming.
35-euro prix fixe menu, about $48 at $1.37 to the euro, you will be served until you beg the kitchen to stop. Without the prix fixe you will have trouble spending that much money, especially since there is good wine at 2 euros a glass.
Opens early for those of you who haven’t moved onto Catalan eating times – you’ll be able to eat at 8- 8.30 instead of the more usual 9-10 (but the atmosphere won’t be quite the same).
